John O'Groats to Land's End - 1989
August 3rd - Helmsdale to Carbisdale (43 miles)
A much better day, even though we had to battle against a blustery west wind. Elevenses at Bora, lunch at Golspie with a quick bit of crank-tightening at the garage. Then off the A9 (at last) and on to our first country lane. Gentle gradients, no traffic, absolute bliss - except for a westerly gale and some free-range cows. A quick cuppa at Bonar Bridge and we arrived at the Youth Hostel at 6pm, just behind two coach-loads of German 'youth-hostellers'. |
