John O'Groats to Land's End - 1989
August 9th - Glen Nevis to Oban (53 miles)

We had been dreading this ride, having imagined rain, wind
and main road traffic. The idea of using the train had been
briefly entertained. In the end we decided to take the day's
ride in nice short stages. The first stop was at Presto's in
Fort William to stock up. Then we did the twelve miles to
Corran for elevenses, followd by eighteen miles to Appin for
lunch. Only one problem - no cafe! Instead we had a snack
inside a telephone box with no door - and Julie phoned her
friend Geraldine while we were there. Then it was all the way
to the end of Loch Creran along one side then back along the
other side. Just before Barcaldine was a cafe where we had
a lovely late lunch. After that we just floated the last twelve
miles to Oban. NEXT
