John O'Groats to Land's End - 1989
August 17th - Keswick to Kendal (30 miles)

Given that this ride was entirely on a main road, it was a great success.
It started with a stiff climb out of Keswick, which was followed by the first
of the day's breathtaking views. The anticipated climb after Thirlmere
turned out to be quite tame, then came the beautiful (and quite flat)
stretch of road between Grasmere and Ambleside, where we had lunch.
By now we realised that, yes, that really was a north-west wind right
behind us. We got on our bikes and didn't want to stop until we got to
Kendal, with just a sideways glance at Lake Windermere. Arrived early
enough to walk round the town and do a bit of shopping before the
hostel opened. Nice place, great hostel. NEXT
