John O'Groats to Land's End - 1989
August 31st - Perranporth to Lizard Point
(32 miles)
Our prayers were answered on this, the last day of the ride. From
Perranporth (depart 10am) to the Lizard (arrive 12.30) we made full
use of a superb tailwind. We were in a hurry now to finish the ride
- and it was a magnificent day on which to finish. When we got to
Lizard Town, with still another mile to go to the most southerly point,
we looked at the map, checked the distance to Coverack (eight
miles) and thought 'Shall we go all the way?' We looked at each
other and thought 'Naah!', so off we went smartish to meet Mary
and Ruby at Coverack youth hostel. Mary was in the orchard above
the hostel and Ruby was on Sam's Quay. It was a memorable
moment for all of us, one that was shared by all and sundry in the
hostel, who had been kept informed of our movements. That
evening we went with them to the Minack Theatre. The End
