John O'Groats to Land's End - 1989

August 5th - Strathpeffer to Torridon (40 miles)

This was a day that got better and better as it went along, and
it started well - apart from some Scotch mist and drizzle. We
had to cape up for a few miles, but we didn't mind because we
had a tailwind. At Achanault the cafe was closed because of
roadworks (?) so no elevenses for us. The hotel at Achnasheen
gave us a good lunch and then the road started to narrow and
the scenery to get Scottish. The ride out from Loch a Chroisg
was magic and we climbed very gradually. Suddenly we were
at the top of Glen Doherty and there was Loch Maree laid out
in front of us. Tea at Kinlochewe and then a lovely ten miles to
Torridon. A great day. NEXT
