John O'Groats to Land's End - 1989
August 6th - Torridon to Kyleakin (48 miles)

It was very wet today. It started with a nice tailwind, but
somewhere between Sheildag and Ardarroch it changed
into a headwind. At least the rain stopped for the last
eight miles into Lochcarron, our lunch stop. After this, the
road went all round the loch and up and down with two
1 in 7 hills and it rained all the way to Stromferry. Then
we turned off the main road and crept up on the Kyle of
Lochalsh from behind. It was a delightful last ten miles,
even though there were some nasty little hills on the way.
And then we were there - on and off the ferry and the
youth hostel staring us in the face. A very comfortable
hostel, almost ruined by another coach-load of German
'hostellers'. NEXT
