John O'Groats to Land's End - 1989
August 11th - Inverary to Lochranza (50 miles)
This was another ride that got better and better as we
went along. There were quite a few showers in the first
half and the wind was a bit of a nuisance. We stopped
for a snack at the side of a loch just before Minard, then
we plodded on to lunch at Lochgilphead, where Julie
took a photo of some newly-weds. After lunch the 14
miles to Tarbert were sheer bliss, except that Julie got
stung by a wasp just before we got there. It looked a bit
nasty so we went to a chemist and bought some hydro-
cortisone cream in case. The ride after this was in sun
-shine with a tailwind, so before we knew it there was
the Isle of Arran waiting for us. Spectacular. We got the
5.30 ferry and then a young man on a tiny bike raced
us to the hostel, which is in an idyllic location. NEXT
